Wacom To Support 64bit Computing
Wacom® Technology Corporation recently announced that its Intuos3® pen tablets and Cintiq® 21UX interactive pen display will support 64-bit computing. 64-bit computing was developed to address the growing number of sophisticated users in the animation, design and photographic space who are pushing the limitations of 32-bit systems. Wacom intends to offer a beta copy of its 64-bit driver in May 2005 for Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition.
What 64-bit Means for Wacom Customers
Digital content creators, such as animators, game developers and graphic designers, using Wacom Intuos3 or Cintiq products expect to benefit significantly from 64-bit’s ability to optimize parallel processes, as well as increase I/O speeds and improve floating-point performance. For example, 64-bit will allow animators to paint on fully-rendered 3-D models, rather than smaller wire frame representations.
“Wacom is pleased to announce its support of 64-bit computing. The combination of Wacom’s pen tablet technology and Microsoft’s new operating system expects to bring tremendous processing power to the digital design experience,” said Mark Mehall, Senior Product Manager with Wacom. “The speed increase realized on 64-bit workstations will save Wacom pen tablet users valuable time and give them the opportunity to concentrate more on the creative process.”
Serious photographers who use Wacom products for photo editing will also appreciate the ability to modify photos faster with 64-bit’s increased performance. Editing productivity is greatly enhanced so photographers can spend more time in the field taking pictures.
