Photoshop In Action

This is a great video put together by Mike Kus of him preparing slides for a speech at the “Future of Web Design” Conference in London. It’s an interesting process to watch as it’s all done in Photoshop. Too fast to be educational on technique but definitely inspirational for style.

Auto Tuning the Website

Not really Photoshop related, but since I’m a web developer by trade, this is very very funny. According to Wikipedia

Auto-Tune is a proprietary audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies that uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It is used to disguise inaccuracies and mistakes, and has allowed many artists to produce more precisely tuned recordings.

You’ll probably recognize from popular pop songs.

Canon 5D Mark II Captures Nine Inch Nails

Captured at a live show in Melbourne, Nine Inch Nails seems to be a pretty good subject for showing off the video capability of the 5D Mark II (again).

Official Presidential Photo Shot with Canon 5D Mark II

You can download the official Presidential photo of Barack Obama from the Change.gov website. A quick shot at the EXIF data reveals:

Places to learn more about Creative Suite 4 (CS4)

CS4 Master Collection Box ShotIf you haven’t heard already, Adobe has announced the latest progression of their Creative Suite product line with CS4.

One of my favorite places, who always come through with solid information, is the NAPP Learning Center for CS4. Scott, Matt and Dave give you some pretty good insight to the new features.

If you want to expand beyond just Photoshop CS4, Layers Magazine (for all things Adobe), has released a fairly extensive CS4 Learning Center also.

Adobe’s own John Nack has also provided a detailed list of CS4 sweetness that you can check out on his blog here.

Upgrading to WordPress 2.5

Wordpress 2.5 UpgradeWe have been delaying the upgrade from WordPress 2.3.3 to 2.5 for a week or so to see how it’s played out in the blogosphere and to test it out on a few other websites. So far, the new admin area upgrades are very welcomed. I’ve been monitoring the 2.5 plugin compatibility list waiting for a few plugins we run to appear on the “compatible” side, but there’s still a few that haven’t. I think we’re going to go ahead with the upgrade and see how we fair.

So, plugins deactiving, files uploading, here we go…

UPDATE Upgrade went well. Looks like there’s a few plugin fixes needed…

UPDATE Seems like the two plugins I tried to use for getting recent comments aren’t working correctly. It’s not important enough of a feature for me to debug myself, so I’ll just disable and keep an eye out if they update.

Lightroom 2.0 Beta Announced by Adobe

Lightroom 2.0 Beta Splash
Fresh on the heels of their Photoshop Express announcement, Adobe releases Lightroom 2.0 Beta to the public. The new version shows just how well Adobe was listening to their users as it presents a great selection of new features for usability and cool-factor. Some of the new features include:

  • Tighter Photoshop integration
  • Multiple monitor support
  • New Developer tools
  • And more…

To get the full scoop and to get started with some training, visit the NAPP Lightroom 2.0 Beta Learning Center.

Don’t forget to download the new version at the Adobe Labs website.

The New Photoshop Lab

Photoshop Lab
If you’ve been here before, then I now welcome you to the new Photoshop Lab. I’ve been wanting to update the design of this site for a very, very long time. I’ve gone through many different design phases. In fact, I have about 14 different mock-ups I’ve done over the past year or so. I finally pushed myself to complete one of the designs and well… here you go. Let’s move on to the new features:

  • Entirely WordPress-based.
  • jQuery (my favorite of all libraries) fanciness on the homepage slideshow and navigation.
  • The Trunk – a new place for random quips and awesomeness.
  • Less ad-slop. I wanted to make my advertising more appealing (and hopefully more effective) by cleaning it up a bit.
  • A new place to submit tutorial ideas.

There’s still a fair amount of debugging to do, especially with Internet Explorer 6 (ugh), but it should be good to go for the most part. I hope you enjoy and if there are any glaring issues, please email us.

The Site Will Now Be PaintLab.com

With such a break-through application, that really puts Photoshop to shame, I could no longer continue supporting something so inferior.
